Handmade kantha quilts and robes direct from India
Kantha quilts were made by poor women in West Bengal when they needed blankets for their babies. They took the softest parts of their well-worn cotton saris and pieced them together with a tight running stitch called kantha. These quilts are still made today with vintage saris in the traditional embroidery stitch by impoverished women.
Kantha quilts are great for picnic blankets, baby blankets or beach blankets. They make great table covers or sew one into a purse, curtains or lamp cover.
Each is as unique and beautiful as the artist that made it. Each quilt is made with joy and love by our talented ladies of India. When you purchase a fair trade product you support the artisans of India.
